Worship Service During COVID-19

Dear church family and visitors,

What follows is our liturgy, with text and video to songs, and audio sermon.

The words to the songs should appear in the youtube videos for each song.

Thank you for joining us for our worship on-line! May the Lord bless you as you worship Him this day in Spirit and truth.

Order of Worship, May 24, 2020

*Greeting: The grace and peace of our Triune God be with you all!

*Prelude: ‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus (Trinity, 679)

*Prayer of Invocation

*Call to Worship: From Psalm 40

Leader: You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you!

People: I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.

Leader: In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required.

ALL: May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, “Great is the LORD!”

Hymn: Great is Thy Faithfulness (Trinity, 32)

Song: As The Deer

As the deer pants for the water, So my soul longs after Thee

You alone are my heart’s desire, And I long to worship Thee

Chorus: You alone are my strength, my shield, To You alone will my spirit yield

You alone are my heart’s desire, And I long to worship You

You’re my friend, and You are my brother, Even though You are a King

I love You more than any other, So much more than anything

I want You more than gold or silver, Only You can satisfy

You alone are the real joy giver, And the apple of my eye

Chorus (Repeat 1X)

*Confession of Sin: Romans 6:11-12 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

Question for Reflection: Do I live as one who is dead to sin, or do I let sin reign in my life and obey its evil desires?

Silent Confession

Corporate Confession of Sin: (Psalm 25:6-11 and Heb 9:14) Remember your mercy, O LORD, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. For your name’s sake, O LORD, pardon our guilt, for it is great. We repent and rest our hope upon the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God to purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God. Cause us by your Spirit to die to sin and live unto righteousness. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

*Assurance of Pardon: (Romans 6:23) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Leader: Brothers and sisters, this is the Gospel!

People: Thanks be to God!

*Affirmation of Faith: The Nicene Creed (381 AD): We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

1Holy catholic and apostolic church: not the Roman Catholic Church, but the universal church consisting of believers with their children throughout the world.

2Baptism for forgiveness of sins: The spiritual realities signified and sealed in baptism come to pass for baptized persons through repentance and faith alone in Christ alone.

Hymn: Amazing Grace (Trinity, 460)

Song: There is a Redeemer

There is a redeemer, Jesus, God’s own Son,

Precious Lamb of God, Messiah, Holy One

CHORUS: Thank you oh my Father, for giving us Your Son,

And leaving Your Spirit ‘Till the work on Earth is done

Jesus my redeemer, Name above all names

Precious Lamb of God, Messiah, oh, for sinners slain

When I stand in Glory, I will see His face

And there I’ll serve my King forever, in that Holy Place

*Congregational Prayers: We invite you to pray to God as you desire-he promises to hear you! If you feel led, please join the congregation in praying for the following requests:

-That God would bring an end to COVID quickly; restoring the sick to health, comforting those who have lost loved ones, and enabling us to join together again soon.

-That God would watch over Elysia Francis’ pregnancy. She is in her 38th Week!

-That God would watch over Miriam Terry’s pregnancy.

-That God would provide a way for Joan and Frank Ellis to come to Vicenza! That He would open up job opportunities on Post, that He would watch over the transition of their church in Ozark, Alabama, and that He would give them each a peace that passes understanding to guard their hearts and minds!

*The Lord’s Prayer: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

*Offering: We encourage you to collect your offering in your home and keep it in a safe place.

We also encourage you to tithe through automatic deduction on-line, or by way of personal check. The link has the info for those modes of giving.

Brothers and sisters, we thank you for your faithfulness and generosity in giving. Your financial provision is essential to ensure that our ministry in Vicenza can continue.
