Grace and love to you
Order of Worship, October 25, 2020
*Greeting: The grace and peace of our Triune God be with you all!
*Song of Meditation: Here Is Love
*Call to Worship: Psalm 46 and Psalm 115:1
Leader: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah
People: The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
ALL: Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!
Hymn: A Mighty Fortress is our God (Trinity, 92)
First Reading: Genesis 3:1-7
Hymn: Holy God We Praise Thy Name (Trinity, 103)
*Confession of Sin: Gal 2:21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.
Questions for Reflection: Do I trust in my good works for right standing or favor with God, or do I trust in the works of Christ alone on my behalf?
Silent Confession. Corporate Prayer of Confession: O Lord, your Word alone is the infallible rule that lets us know what we are to believe and how we are to live. Yet, in our pride we have sinned against you in our thoughts, words, and actions. We renounce our sin and rejoice in the great salvation that is ours by your grace alone, through faith alone, in and by Christ alone, who bore our transgressions on the cross and in whose righteousness alone we stand. Fill us with your Spirit so that we might die more and more to sin and live unto righteousness. To God alone be the glory. Amen.
*Assurance of Pardon: 1 Cor 1:28-31 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
Leader: Brothers and sisters, this is the Gospel!
People: Thanks be to God!
*Affirmation of Faith: The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell.1 The third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;2 the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
1- This means that Jesus remained under the power of death
2- The word “catholic” means universal, and refers to the visible church that professes the true gospel that is found throughout the whole world.
Second Reading: Romans 8:28-39
Hymn: Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)
Worship our Lord through providing for His Kingdom. By this that we are able to continue to bless each other and others within the church and community.
We also encourage you to tithe on-line, or by way of personal check. The link has the info for those modes of giving.
Brothers and sisters, we thank you for your faithfulness and generosity in giving. Your financial provision is essential to ensure that our ministry in Vicenza can continue.
Sermon: Hold Fast to What You Have Known (Jude 5-11), Joe Bruhl
Closing Hymn: To God Be The Glory (Trinity, 55)
Leader: For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)
People: Thanks be to God.
